STAYING TRUE TO OUR ROOTS

Did you know, that although we are best known for skin health and sanitising, our heritage lies in tackling the tough soils associated with the manufacturing industry? In fact, the very first product GOJO® developed was a heavy-duty hand cleaner back in 1946.

It’s an interesting story that began in Ohio, with husband-and-wife team, Goldie and Jerry Lippman. During World War II, Goldie was a supervisor in a rubber factory, manufacturing life rafts and rubber products for the war effort. She and her co-workers discovered how difficult it was to clean their hands after a day’s work. The men, who had worked in rubber factories before the war, had removed the graphite and carbon black by dipping their hands in chemicals like kerosene and benzene at the end of a shift. These harsh chemicals took a toll on workers’ hands, so Goldie and her husband Jerry set out to find a better solution.

This kindled the spirit of innovation that remains with us today and has led to the development of products that continue to meet the specific skin needs of different consumers. We serve businesses of all sizes too, from large national healthcare organisations like the NHS to small independent garages, workshops.

Investing in the future

Heavy-duty is an area in which we continue to invest heavily. In fact, we are nearing completion of a new state of the art plant in Croissy Beaubourg, France, which has been designed to meet the requirements of this particular industry. This new factory will help us to increase our capacity so that we can serve these customers even more efficiently.

Building on the $400million that was invested in 2021 to increase manufacturing capabilities worldwide, the €4.3million investment in this new building will enable us to offer innovative products at excellent price points. Its fully automated systems will be capable of producing formats ranging from 500ml bottles to 5l refills, and everything in between.

It’s been built with sustainability in mind too. Designed to reduce the carbon footprint during the manufacturing process, the plant minimises product wastage and water and energy consumption. Its bespoke ‘Cleaning-in-Place’ systems increase efficiencies, whilst also guaranteeing the highest possible levels of hygiene.

For more than 75 years, workers in heavy industries have depended on GOJO to safely and effectively clean and care for their hands. Despite our wealth of experience, we are always looking to develop solutions that are safe, effective, and good for both people and planet.
